Meet Dr. Hussaini

S. Kalim Hussaini, DDS, MS

Words cannot express how passionate I am about orthodontics! My first professional degree was in engineering and I knew immediately that I enjoyed working with certain principles of physics such as vectors and forces (yes, I can be a little dorky :-)). However, I also soon learned that I wanted interpersonal interactions with people that a career in engineering would limit.

As an orthodontist, I have the best of both worlds: I get to apply the technical principles I loved to use as an engineer to reposition teeth and at the same time still enjoy the interpersonal interactions I would have missed out on if I had a desk job. The greatest joy I experience as an orthodontist is watching my patients grow up into happy, confident adults, right before my eyes. On top of it all, I am blessed with the ability to give my patients the smiles they deserve. It is absolutely exhilarating to experience my patients' grateful reactions as they leave my office the day their treatments are completed. I love to see the self-esteem their new smiles bring them in every aspect of their lives!

Education

My dedication to providing excellence in patient care started with my education and training necessary to make my patients feel confident in the care they receive. I began my professional studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, where I graduated summa cum laude and received a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering.

Since I wanted my educational focus to shift to a more personalized healthcare field, I went on to earn my Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the VCU School of Dentistry at the MCV campus where I graduated magna cum laude. Following dental school, I completed an orthodontic residency program at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine, where I was awarded a Master of Science degree in Orthodontics. I was elected Class President for all three years of residency by my peers and served all duties and responsibilities of a Chief Resident. Through my Ivy-League education, I developed a solid foundation in the fundamentals of orthodontics including training in the most recent of orthodontic advancements.

Following residency, I reached the pinnacle of academic achievement in my profession by becoming a board-certified orthodontist. This certification is another example of my pursuit of continued proficiency and excellence in orthodontics so that I can provide the best care to my patients.

Continuing Education

I believe continuing education is the key to keep up with the latest advancements and technology within the field of orthodontics. As a practitioner, I always strive to provide the best care to my patients, and keeping up with CE is crucial in ensuring this goal. My aim is to deliver the safest and most efficient treatment to my patients in the most comfortable manner possible. I regularly attend continuing education courses locally, nationally, and online through a variety of professional organizations and study clubs including the:

Outside the Office

I grew up in Northern Virginia and have been a part of the local community for over 15 years. I am a huge sports fan who grew up playing racket sports, and it would be an understatement to say that watching professional football is my life! In my free time, I enjoy eating out and watching movies with family and friends. I also love to travel and try to experience new places and cultures whenever I vacation.

I am extremely blessed to be where I am today and am well aware that not everyone is so lucky to have such opportunities. I strongly believe that it is my human and civil responsibility to help people in need in any way possible. I regularly volunteer with local groups that provide free dental services to underprivileged patients. I also volunteer with several community organizations including the Mission of Mercy Project, Give Kids a Smile Day, Habitat for Humanity, and Special Olympics.
